Have you noticed that we all have our go-to place within our home? We have found – or created, our very own corner we love to snuggle in winter and find pleasure to relax in summer! That’s the place we long to go to all day long and hate it when we have to go out or when Mondays come.
Some people’s go-to place is in the backyard. Thought of it too but don’t know how to achieve it? Well, think about it. What makes your favorite corner a favorite corner? Which are the factors that make you return to this place to the point that you are considering putting a label with your name on it to keep others from snuggling in there?
Should we shake your thoughts a bit? A place becomes attractive and inviting when it’s comfortable, sheltered, and decorated to your liking. And so, what will you need in your backyard? A safe place, where you will feel comfortable sitting and doing various things, without worrying about the elements or your privacy. Also, a place that will be gorgeous for your eyes, a place you will soon start calling your go-to nest. Should we be more specific?
Build a deck
The outdoor deck acts like your interior floor. It decorates and allows you to move around without worrying about stumbling and falling. The deck may be built in any size and shape – hence, the size and the inclination of the landscape don’t matter. What matters is that the wood deck will be the first and one of the most fundamental elements of your happy backyard living.
Shelter the deck
To create privacy, you need a fence. To feel sheltered all year round, you need a pergola. To feel safe, you need railings. Then again, such decisions and such choices are subject to your particular case. If, for example, this is a low deck, you don’t need railings. If the first neighbor is a few miles away or there are tall bushes and trees on the landscape’s perimeter, you don’t have to worry about a fence. If you don’t like the idea of having a wooden pergola, you may settle for an umbrella. The point is that there are ways to make the backyard deck space comfortable and private.
Dress the deck
While having a wooden deck is marvelous, you won’t spend much time out there without the right furniture. And so, when you are done with the deck building and sheltering your space, start measuring to get chairs, tables, sofas – whatever you like and whatever fits perfectly without getting in your way. To make the right choice, think of what you would love to do out in the backyard. Think of what furniture you need to feel comfortable – a chair with multiple cushions? A deep sofa? Side tables? A dining table?
Bright up the backyard deck
Even if you like sitting in the dark – literally, you can’t stay in the dark forever. Place lights around the deck to make it inviting for a nice dinner or even for reading a book. Install various types of lights so that you will have both task and ambient lighting.
Heat up the backyard
Why should have to give up your favorite outdoor go-to place when it gets chilly? One thing you can do is get an outdoor pit. Or even an outdoor fireplace. Such choices are great for warming up the space and the atmosphere.
Create a pathway
If this is a rather big backyard, create one or more pathways – depending on the landscape’s size. You can also light the pathways and so wander in your own backyard and move in comfort.
Build an outdoor kitchen
What’s the ultimate thing you need so as to never move from your new go-to backyard cave? Food, snacks, and drinks. In other words, an outdoor kitchen with appliances, counter space, and enough room to prep food, cook food, and eat food. Some storage room for extra drinks and snacks too – and then see if anyone will manage to drag you away from there.
